Assumption Antipolo's 45th Foundation Year: “Called to Joyfully Serve as Kin of God’s Creation”

By MJ Araza, 12-1

Assumption Antipolo celebrates its annual Foundation Day every 11th of September, and this year, the school celebrated its 45th year as an educational institution. The day started with a School Mass, sponsored by the Grade 9 students, at the Assumpta Theater.

The presiding celebrant of the mass was Fr. Leon Luanzon, who was a part of the Marian Missionary of the Holy Cross. In his homily, he reminded the community to heed the call, promote change, and show concern for our surroundings to fulfill our role of stewards and caretakers of God’s creation.

After the mass, the students read their Filipino books for DEAR time. In celebration of Ecology Month, 45 native trees were planted beside the Shrine of St. Marie Eugenie. Additionally, an exhibit featuring the life and environmental responses of Old Girl and former Department of Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary, Gina Lopez, was set up at the Main Learning Resource Center.

In the afternoon, students were serenaded by the Orchestra of the Cardona Youth. Orchestral pieces ranging from the old to the new were performed, with guided singing from student representatives from each grade level. A special performance by the Komusikasyon blew the audience away with their cover of Ryan Cayabyab's song, Paraiso. The orchestra also performed a medley of classic Disney songs and even had an encore performance upon the audience's request.

Faithful to its values for 45 years, Assumption Antipolo continues to live out the call of 'Joyfully Serving as kin of God's Creation' this Ecology month. The community proudly upholds the values of Caring for God's creation, through various ecological practices and events in September and throughout the whole year.
