Transform Education into Action: Grade 9 Wet Market Exposure

By Kathryn Chua, 9-4

Staying true to the values of Transformative Education, the Grade 9 students of Assumption Antipolo had their Wet Market Exposure last Tuesday, October 1, 2019. The students travelled to the Antipolo Wet Market along with their teachers and accompanying sitio mothers.

With a budget of only ₱180, the students were tasked to buy ingredients to cook a meal fit for a family of 6-7. The Wet Market Exposure aims to help students develop their sense of responsibility, critical thinking, and independence. The students interacted with the vendors in order to find out about the process of acquiring the products sold, their opinions on bargaining, and their day-to-day experiences. After buying necessary ingredients, the respective groups went back to the campus to cook with what they bought.

The Wet Market Exposure will hopefully have a lasting impact on the students and the people they interacted with, developing a sense of responsibility and being exposed to a wider variety of human experiences.
